Federal Affairs Lead (US)

Remote

AI policy is being written right now, and this role puts you in the room where decisions happen. As a recent grad, you'll skip the "observe and learn" phase and jump straight into direct lobbying work on the Hill. You'll own real legislative outcomes for Reflection AI, a research lab building open AI models.

You'll manage the full lobbying cycle: identify which policymakers to target, develop clear asks, schedule and run meetings, track what's been promised, and follow through to actual wins. Your focus areas span national security, procurement, energy, infrastructure, and AI governance. You're not advising from a desk—you're executing on Capitol Hill and in Executive Branch offices.

This role fits you if you have strong communication skills, understand how Congress and federal agencies work (or are willing to learn fast), and can manage projects and relationships in parallel. Background in policy, public affairs, engineering, or related fields helps. You need to be organized, persistent, and comfortable with the ambiguity of early-stage policy work.

About this role

OUR MISSION Reflection is a research lab making intelligence open and accessible for everyone to use, customize, and build on. We build open models that let anyone control their intelligence and help shape the future of AI. Our mission: make intelligence open and accessible to all. ROLE OVERVIEW AI policy is being written in real time. This is the most consequential technology policy moment in a generation — and Reflection AI is at the center of it. We're looking for a hands-on federal affairs professional to lead our engagement across Congress and the Executive Branch. This is a direct lobbying role — you'll be on the Hill executing, not just advising from the sidelines. You'll own Reflection AI's federal legislative agenda, drive strategy and execution, and build the relationships that turn policy goals into wins. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Engage with policymakers across Congress and the Executive Branch on Reflection AI's priority issues, including national security, procurement, energy, infrastructure, and AI governance - Own the full lobbying cycle: identify targets, develop the ask, schedule and execute meetings, track commitments, and follow through to outcomes - Monitor and engage on relevant legislation, markups, and regulatory activity — providing real-time intelligence to leadership and flagging inflection points that require action - Develop and execute advocacy campaigns in coordination with cross functional partners - Draft and deliver leave-behinds, one-pagers, testimony support, and other materials that make our policy positions land on the Hill - Advise leadership on political feasibility, legislative timing, and stakeholder dynamics — translating what's happening into clear strategic guidance - Represent Reflection AI at political and policy events - Manage relationships with external consultants and lobbying firms WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 7+ years of experience in-house, at a firm, or in government with a clear record of influencing legislative outcomes - Active, trusted relationships with policymakers - Experience in technology policy strongly preferred - Comfortable getting up to speed quickly on complex technical subject matter - Sharp written and verbal communicator — you can distill a complex AI policy issue into a two-minute pitch or a crisp one-pager - Exceptional judgement - Energized by a fast-moving startup environment where you're building the playbook, not inheriting one WHAT WE OFFER: We believe that to make intelligence open and accessible to all, you need to start at the foundation. Joining Reflection means building from the ground up as part of a talent-dense team. You will help define our future as a company, and help define the future of open foundational models. We want you to do the most impactful work of your career with the confidence that you and the people you care about most are supported. - Top-tier compensation: Salary and equity structured to recognize and retain our talent globally. - Stock options: Everyone who joins and contributes to Reflection's success gets to share in the upside through stock options. - Health & wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life, with an annual wellness allowance. - Meals: Lunch and dinner are provided in the office daily. - Life & family: 22 weeks paid parental leave for all new birthing and non-birthing parents, including adoptive and surrogate journeys. - Vacation days: Unlimited paid time off in the U.S. and 30 days in the U.K. - Sponsorship support: We sponsor visas to help exceptional talent join our team and support long-term immigration pathways where applicable. - Team building: We have regular off-sites, happy hours, and team celebrations.
